FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How do I show the petition on my website?

Create your first petition under Petitioner -> Add new. Once you do that, you can either use a shortcode provided on the creation page or a Gutenberg block. Read more in the getting started article.

Can I collect petitions without sending emails?

Absolutely! Sending an email to the representative is optional.

How can I prevent unwanted submissions/spam?

There are a few things you can do:

  • Enable captcha. You can choose between a few different captcha providers. Learn more here.
  • Use Akismet. Petitioner comes with a seamless integration with Akismet. All you have to do is enable it under the integrations and have Akismet installed.
  • Add a honeypot field. Go to the petition edit page, then open the “Advanced settings” tab and check “Add a honeypot field to the form for better spam protection?”
  • Confirm submissions via email. This ensures the person submitting the petition actually owns that email. You can find this option in the edit page of your petition.
  • Manually confirm/deny submissions.

How do I customize the styles?

You can customize your petitions under Petitioner -> Settings. You can change the colors, conditionally display certain fields, and add custom CSS.

How can I ensure petition emails don’t go to spam?

Petitioner uses the default wp_mail() function behind the scenes. This means it’s up to your server to send the emails properly, not the plugin. The easiest way to make it work is to install an SMTP plugin, like WP SMTP.

Additionally, you might want to disable sending each letter to a representative, as that can cause your email reputation to go down. In the settings, uncheck “Send this email to a representative?” and manually send them a letter once enough signatures are collected.

How do I see and export the submissions?

Open the edit page of your petition and click on the “Submissions” tab. There will be a button to export your submissions.

Can I request features?

Absolutely! Feel free to reach out through this contact form
